Rajnandgaon is the primary town of Rajnandgaon District, in the state of Chhattisgarh, India.It is 64kms from Raipur.The District headquarters of Rajnandgaon is on the Bombay - Howrah line of southeastern railways. The town is surrounded by ponds and rivers and is known for its small-scale industries and traders. Lakhs of people from in and around Chattisgarh flock the shrine during the navratris of Kavar (during Dusshera) and Chaitra (during Ramnavmi). During these navratris melas (fair) are organised in the premises of the temple, which run 24 hours. Many companies and organisations display their product during this mela. The added tourist attraction is the ropeway. It is the only passenger ropeway in the state of Chhattisgarh.

SHIVA TEMPLE (GHATIYARI), Village Birkha, (District Rajnandgaon)This stone built monument facing the east direction is situated near village Birkha, 3 kms west at hill side in Gandai tehsil of Rajnandgaon district. The main ruined temple has garbha-griha and mandapa with remains of walls. A Shiva Linga is installed in the garbh-griha on Yonipitha. The doorjamb is well decorated with the depiction of standing Shiva as doorkeeper with ghata-pallava motif on both sides. Various important sculptures as Bhairava Nandi, Ganesha worshipper and etc. have been displayed on the Padastals in the temple-campus. This temple was built by the Nagavamshi rulers during 10th–11th cent. A.D. This is a good specimen of regional temple architecture and art which flourished during that period.
