Situated in the west direction of the picturesque Satpura mountain range, Dhamtari is a mesmerizing district of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The western side of the district is bounded by Kanker and the northern side of the district is bordered by the capital of the state of Chhattisgarh namely Raipur. The presence of the forests, ripe with luxurious green trees, uncommon animals, different types of plants and dams has made this destination quite popular.  PLACES TO SEE IN DHAMTARI

Rudri: In the entire of the district of Dhamtari, Rudri is one of the most famous tourist spots. As per the myths, this place called Rudri used to function as the Kanker Kingdom’s capital during the rule of Rudra Dev. Located on the bed of the river named Mahanadi, the temple called Rudreshwar Temple is a popular spot for tourists.  
                  
Sihava: One of the main locations for pilgrimages in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh is Sihava. This place is situated close to Dhamtari. On the bed of the river named Mahanadi, this place is situated, encircled by the lush green forests and mighty mountains. The names of some of the sacred locations in Sihava are Karbeshwar Temple, Ganesh Ghat, Hringi Hathi Khot Ashram, the cave named Danteshwari Cave, Amrit Kund and Mahamai Temple.    
                 
Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary: For the people who are an ardent lover of animals and wildlife, the Sitanadi Wildlife Sanctuary is a perfect destination to be during the trip to Dhamtari. Under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972, the foundation of the wildlife sanctuary took place. 556 square kilometers of land is covered by this sanctuary. The height of the locations in the sanctuary varies from 327 to 736 meters above the sea level. The name of this wildlife sanctuary has been derived from the name of the Sitanadi River. The starting point of this river is this sanctuary only and it converges with the Mahanadi River close to a place called Deokhut.
                 
Gangrel Dam: Another name of the Gangrel Dam is Ravishankar Dam. In the Dhamtari District, this location is quite a famous spot for the visitors. The dam has been constructed along the breadth of the river named Mahanadi. The distance of the dam is 15 Kms. A Hydel power projects named the Gangrel Hydel Power Project of 10 MV capacity has been developed here. The power for the neighboring area is produced here. As much as 15,000 cusec of water is contained by the Gangrel Dam. A connection to the Orissa’s Hirakud Dam to the Gangrel Dam is present. In the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, this dam is considered to be the largest and the lengthiest dam.    
              
Rudreshwar Temple: A renowned sacred place of worship, the Rudreshwar Temple is situated in the district of Dhamtari, right on the beds of the river named Mahanadi in Rudri. The statue of Lord Shiva is present in the temple. The existence of the temple can be traced back to the time period of the Chandra Dynasty according to the historical facts.  
               
Rudreshwar Temple is a famous holy shrine in the Dhamtari District. The shrine of Rudreshwar is located on the banks of Mahanadi River in Rudri. This temple enshrines a figurine of Lord Shiva who is its presiding deity. The temple had been blesses and sanctified by the king named Chandravanshi King Rudra Dev.

Madamsilli DAM
Madamsilli DAM The giant construction of the Madamsilli dam is an engineering marvel of the state of Chhattisgarh.It is 12 kms from gangrel dam.

Bilai Mata Mandir
Bilai Mata Mandir is a revered shrine, which is dedicated to Goddess Durga.

Kanker Palace: One of the main tourist attractions of Dhamtari is the Kanker Palace. A mesmerizing garden plus a well maintained and ornamented sitting section are present in the palace grounds. Certain portions of this archaic palace have been turned into a fancy heritage hotel. The management of the hotel are taken are care of by the members of the royal family, who dwells in the palace grounds. Many a number of functions including intriguing and appealing traditional dance forms and musical shows are hosted in the palace.

HOW TO REACH IN DHAMTARI

By Air: The closest air terminal is located in Raipur, situated at a distance of 70 Kms from Dhamtari.
By Rail: Dhamtari has a railway station of its own; otherwise train to Raipur can also be taken.
By Road: The town of Dhamtari is located along the National Highway 43. Frequent buses are available including state run buses.
