Puttaparthi is a small village that got recognition with the little boy who took birth here and later came to be known as 'Sri Satya Sai Baba'. Eminent as the birthplace of Sri Satya Sai Baba, the town has become a divine pilgrimage for people from all parts of the world. Till the late 1960's, Puttaparthi was a secluded and backward village in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.
As and when the charisma of Satya Sai Baba spread all around and people started coming here, the village became well-known. With the erection of colossal Ashram, the number of devotees started multiplying year by year. In the present times, this divine place prominently appears on the tourism map of Andhra Pradesh. Satya Sai Baba is believed to be the incarnation of Sai Baba, the holy saint from Shirdi.
Over the years, Baba's ashram has been extended with hospitals, schools, hospitals, museum, recreation centres, guest houses etc and transformed the place into a town. Though outside the ashram, the rural life persists in the village. Puttaparthy has got fertile lands and long stretches of green fields make the perfect backdrop to this town. Travel to Puttaparthi, have a glimpse of the celestial soul and get mesmerized by the serene beauty of the region.
